Train with the Best
Safety goes beyond just a good airplane. We're proud of our safety record, and know it takes safe pilots to ensure safe flights. Diamond's commitment to quality doesn't stop when we deliver your aircraft. We believe that high quality training is as critical to your safety as a well-designed aircraft.
That's why we're building a network of Diamond Flight Centers (DFC) across North America. DFCs are an exclusive group of schools committed to providing high-quality flight training using Diamond aircraft and Diamond- specific flight training simulators. Hand-selected by Diamond and our Diamond Distributors, DFCs meet demanding standards. We require them to develop and utilize a set of Standard Operating Procedures and structured syllabi focusing on Diamond aircraft, ensuring that your total training experience, will be the best in the industry.

What does it take to get my license?
Have you ever thought to yourself how incredible it would be to fly? Imagine all the destinations, adventures and memories that flying would bring to your life. Once you've tried flying there's simply no other way to travel - high above traffic, direct to the destinations of your choice and without the hassles of airport security lines or surly cabin staff - just pure enjoyment for you and your passengers. If you've ever thought that flying your own plane is something that you'd like to do, the Diamond is definitely the right choice for you.
Getting your pilot's license is one of the most fun and gratifying achievements in life - and it's easier to do than you think. Diamond's family of aircraft are easy to learn to fly, and when your missions require more capability, you can easily transition "up" - all the way to the D-JET, our personal light jet - imagine how cool flying your own jet would be! Diamond is the only manufacturer that has a full line up of aircraft, from our two seat single the DA20 all the way up to the D-JET. We also have the best training in the industry thanks to our Diamond Flight Centers and we also have the best safety record.

How long will it take?
Getting a private pilot's license requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training, with a nation-wide average of about 60-70 hours, as well as attendance at ground school. Depending on your schedule, you can get your license in about 3 months, by taking lessons 2-3 times per week - or spread out the learning over a longer time to fit your needs. Weather does play a role, as when you're early in your training, your instructor will only take you up on days that have good weather, so if you live in the north east and start your license in the fall, it will take you longer than if you live in California. For the 'ground school' work - or theoretical aspect of your training, you have multiple options from self-taught, multi-media courses to formal classes offered by your local Diamond Flight Center, to 'cram courses' over several weekends - or just plain old independent book study.
How much will it cost?
As a starting estimate, budget between $30-$60 per hour for your flight instructor's time (your 'CFI', in aviation lingo), $500-$1,000 for materials, course and fees, and $100-$175 per hour for aircraft rental, depending on the plane you choose (a DA20 will be significantly cheaper than a DA40, say), as well as your location. Adding it all up, you should budget between $7,000-$10,000 for your Private Pilot's license, recognizing that exact figures will vary.
