Tango Whiskey met its ‘maker’!

In April, we could finally welcome the 2019 DA50 RG Exterior Design Competition winner Kirk Smith at our headquarters in Wiener Neustadt (Austria). The graphic artist enjoyed his visit together with his brother Anthony and took to the skies in the aircraft with his amazing design and call sign OE-VTW (or ‘Tango Whiskey’) – an aircraft many of you already know and love.

On 15 May 2019 we started a one-of-a-kind contest for every aviation enthusiast. Something many of you have always dreamed of: designing the exterior paint scheme of an aircraft. On August 24, 2019 the time had come: We were finally able to announce the winner(s). And the first place, which included a visit to our Austrian facilities with the winner’s +1 including a company tour and a sightseeing flight in the amazing DA50 RG, went to Kirk Smith, a UK based graphic artist, who said that his design has allowed himself to combine his passions for both design and aviation but listen to the words of the artist himself in this video:

We spent a fantastic day with Kirk and his brother. On the production tour, they not only learned how our Diamonds are made but Kirk was actually able to witness how his design is being applied to a brand new DA50 RG.

After this awesome experience and lunch at our Katana Kafé, we were ready to take off with ‘Tango Whiskey’, which took us over local landmarks such as our ‘Hausberg’ Schneeberg, the Roman ruins at Carnuntum, and Lake Neusiedl.

We are glad that Kirk enjoyed his time with the #DiamondAircraftFamily and end this article with his words: “I wanted to send a heartfelt thank you to the team at Diamond Aircraft for having my brother and I tour the factory in Wiener Neustadt and finally fly the DA50 RG! A huge thank you to Anastasia, Colin, Alexei, Karin, Anita, Amila, Gerhard, David, Martin and many more for making this trip possible and for the fantastic opportunity! We had an excellent trip and I am so grateful for all the hospitality shown to us, and for being able to soak up the local delights of Vienna! We both very much appreciate your time spent out of busy schedules welcoming us, and we’ll always look back with fond memories of our time poking around the factory!”
