A carbon responsible solution, offering a significant reduction to our already low emissions and noise signature; Diamond’s aircraft are a sustainable electric solution for the General Aviation market of tomorrow.
After extensive research and numerous flight test hours on electric and hybrid electric platforms, Diamond Aircraft is positioned to offer an all-electric solution to the General Aviation market – the eDA40.
Creating an eco-conscious and cost effective option for the training market has always been at the core of Diamond Aircraft. The eDA40, a derivative of the existing and certified DA40 platform, will be the first EASA/FAA Part 23 certified electric airplane with DC fast charging.
Initial flights of the eDA40 are scheduled for 2023. Certification is expected end of 2023/beginning of 2024.
The eDA40 is designed to be an excellent electric circuit trainer and is based on an industry leading training model, the DA40.
Electric Power Systems (EPS) is a leading provider of high-power, scalable powertrains that are certifiable for electrified aviation. It develops energy storage systems, DC fast-charging stations, and electric propulsion products for Aerospace, Defense, Automotive, Marine, and Industrial Traction industries.
EPS has numerous battery systems currently powering customer flight demonstrator vehicles (e.g., NASA X-57 and Bell Nexus). Advanced features produce safer battery systems resulting in a perfect safety record in field.
As a leader in certifiable energy storage systems, Electric Power Systems has developed a lightweight, low cost, long lasting solution that integrates the latest battery technology with advanced motors, power distribution, and charging assets.
The eDA40 all-electric training aircraft will be powered by an ENGINeUSTM electric smart motor by Safran Electrical & Power.
The ENGINeUSTM product line includes a broad range of electric motors with power outputs from single digit to 500 kW. The ENGINeUSTM 100, that will equip the eDA40, delivers 130 kW maximum at take-off power and features a fully integrated motor controller within the machine. The thermal management is provided by an optimized air-cooling system. The certification of the electric motor is planned for mid-2023.
October 2018 - HEMEP
The world’s first hybrid-electric multi engine.
Siemens and Diamond Aircraft have partnered again in order to develop a multi-engine hybrid electric aircraft with lower fuel consumption (higher efficiency) and decreased noise pollution.
June 2013 - Diamond DA36 E-Star 2
At the Paris Airshow, Siemens, EADS and Diamond Aircraft showcased the next generation DA36 E-Star with a serial hybrid-electric drive.
This drive concept enables quiet electric takeoff and a considerable reduction in both fuel consumption and emissions of up to 25 percent. The second generation aircraft has proven that this technology is suitable for commercial use.
June 2011 - Diamond DA36 E-Star
Diamond Aircraft, Siemens, Austro Engine and EADS presented the world’s first aircraft with a serial hybrid electric drive system.
The heavily modified Diamond HK36 motorglider serves as a test bed for technologies that are intended to develop into use on large-scale aircraft to cut fuel consumption and emissions by 25 percent, compared to today’s most efficient aircraft.
